Thermal Work Gloves, Beanies and Neck Warmers | Saniso

Thermal Work Gloves, Beanies and Neck Warmers | Saniso

Which hat, neck warmer and gloves do you need for cold work? Start with thermal work gloves that keep your fingers warm and still give grip, matched to the job: dry handling, wet materials or snow. Then add a hat that covers your forehead and ears, and a neck warmer that closes the gap at your collar.

Saniso has STALCO gloves in sizes 6 to 11, hats that mostly come in one size, and the HUGO neck warmer. Saniso B.V. in Zwaag sells the STALCO and STALCO PERFECT brands as a wholesaler and webshop.

Thermal work gloves, hat or neck warmer: what do you need for which job?

Pick your gloves for the work your hands do. Then pick a hat for your headgear and the light you work in.

In short: WINTER FOAM and FROST suit wet, cold handling, YETI is the pair for snow, and a hat with a light helps when the sun is not up yet.

Why protect your head, neck and hands when working in the cold?

Cold fingers lose feel and grip. That makes every screw, lift and handle harder. A lined glove with a grip coating keeps you working instead of warming your hands in your pockets.

  • Grip in the cold: a latex layer on the palm holds wet and slippery objects, which helps when handling cold materials such as pipes, kerbs or crates.
  • Wind off your ears: a snug hat covers your forehead and ears against cold gusts.
  • Fits your other gear: a smooth or tight-knit hat goes under a hood or helmet.
  • Seen and able to see: a built-in light, a reflective band or a bright glove helps on dark mornings.
  • Phone without bare hands: gloves with touchscreen use save you from pulling them off in the rain.

A neck warmer adds the last piece. It covers your neck and lower face, so cold air does not slip in at your collar.

Who uses thermal work gloves, work beanies and neck warmers?

Anyone who works outside or in a cold space. Think of construction sites, paving, roadworks, a cold warehouse, delivery rounds or grounds maintenance.

The same goes for a DIYer clearing gutters or working in the garden on a frosty day. If you equip a whole crew, low-priced gloves per pair and hats in one size keep it simple: nobody has to try a hat on first.

For children and adults with a small head there is a hat with a light in a smaller size (see below).

Choosing thermal work gloves: lining, grip and feel

The lining keeps the warmth in. The coating on the palm decides your grip. A thinner glove gives more feel, a thicker one more warmth.

S-THERMGRIP and S-THERMGRIP ECO: affordable gloves for everyday cold work

S-THERMGRIP ECO is the low-priced choice. It is an insulated polyester-cotton blend glove with textured latex on the palm, in sizes 9, 10 and 11, for example size 9: S-47426. You can wear it over a second, thinner pair of protective gloves. It is marked EN 388 2132X. Do not wash it.

S-THERMGRIP comes in size 9 and size 10. Size 9 (S-47369) is acrylic with a latex coating and a Velcro cuff, meant for industry and building outside. Do not wash it either. Size 10 (S-47371) is described for light work such as assembly, cleaning and packaging. Check each product page for the details of the size you need.

WINTER FOAM: double latex coating and touchscreen use

WINTER FOAM has two latex layers. A smooth, waterproof layer covers the whole hand, and a foam layer on the palm adds grip with a sandy finish. Inside is an acrylic lining, and a waffle-knit cuff closes the wrist.

It works with a touchscreen, so you can use your phone with the gloves on. Sizes 8 to 11, for example size 8: S-76395. It is marked EN 388 2242X and EN 511, the standard for protection against cold.

FROST: fleece lining against contact cold

FROST has a fleece acrylic lining and a black, sandy latex coating with Super Grip®. The thumb is fully coated, and the orange colour makes your hands easy to spot. The product page names protection against contact cold, for example when you grab cold materials.

FROST is the only line here sold in sizes 6 and 7 as well as 8 to 11. Every size has its own item, for example size 9: S093220203. FROST is marked EN 388 2242X and EN 511 X2X.

PARKER and YETI: insulated gloves for cold and wet work

Both have a fleece lining, protection against cold and moisture, and reinforcements at the palm, fingertips and index finger. Both come in size 8.

  • PARKER (S-47391) has a polyurethane palm and a signal-yellow back. A high, stiff cuff with elastic keeps the wrist covered. It is meant for days when the temperature drops to around zero.
  • YETI (S-47135) is made of polyester with latex and closes with a Velcro cuff that keeps cold air and snow out. It is meant for sub-zero temperatures and snow. It is marked EN 388 1122X.

Work beanies and winter hats

Most of these hats come in one size. Choose by what you wear over or around them, and by the light you work in.

COOPTER: smooth thermal cap for men and women

COOPTER is a thermoactive knitted cap of 92% polyester and 8% elastane, 270 g/m², brushed on the inside. It covers your forehead and ears, has flat seams and reflective details, and its smooth surface fits under a rain hood or with a head torch.

There is a men's model, for example in graphite (S-79004), and a women's model, for example in grey (S-79006). Both are one universal size. Wash at 30 °C; do not tumble dry, bleach, iron or dry clean.

ALASKA, OSLO and OLO: warm knitted hats

  • ALASKA (S-79518) has two layers: acrylic outside and an extra 3M Thinsulate lining of polyester. It has a rolled-up brim and comes in one size. Hand wash only.
  • OSLO (S-79510) is two-layer acrylic and reversible, black on one side and olive on the other. One size, hand wash only.
  • OLO (S-42056) is densely knitted acrylic with a double layer. Folded up, it gives four layers over your forehead and ears. It fits 54–62 cm and can be worn under a helmet. It is the lowest-priced hat here.

For ALASKA and OSLO, do not tumble dry, bleach, iron or dry clean.

CORK: earflaps and a waterproof outer

CORK (S-42049) has a waterproof polyester outer and is fully lined with synthetic fur. The earflaps close under your chin. It is meant for outdoor work in very low temperatures. Hand wash only; no tumble dryer, bleach, iron or dry cleaning.

RAY and 2 RAYS: winter hats with a built-in light

These acrylic hats have a rechargeable LED light of 120 lumens with four modes: 100%, 75%, 50% and pulsing. You keep both hands free and you charge the light by USB.

  • RAY (S091442050) fits 54–62 cm and gives up to about 4 hours of light. Take the light out before you hand wash the hat.
  • RAY FLUO in neon orange (S091491036) or neon yellow adds a 2 cm reflective band. The light can be removed for washing.
  • 2 RAYS (S091491038) has a white light at the front and a red light at the back. Both lights come out, and the hat is hand wash only.
  • RAY KIDS (S091491035) fits smaller heads, 46–52 cm, including children.

RAY, RAY FLUO and 2 RAYS list EN ISO 13688, category I, on their product pages.

HUGO neck warmer: close the gap at your collar

HUGO is a thermoactive neck warmer in the same fabric as COOPTER: 92% polyester, 8% elastane, 270 g/m². It warms your neck and face, and an opening at the mouth lets you breathe and talk freely.

It stretches to one universal size and has reflective details for rain and dark hours. Wash at 30 °C; do not tumble dry, bleach, iron or dry clean.

HUGO comes in graphite (S-79010), blue and grey, the same colours as COOPTER. That makes it easy to match, for example a blue COOPTER cap (S-79008) with the blue HUGO (S-79011).

FAQ

Which work gloves keep your hands warm and still give good grip?

Choose a lined glove with a coated palm. For wet or cold materials, FROST and WINTER FOAM have a sandy latex finish. For dry work around freezing, PARKER or the low-priced S-THERMGRIP ECO do the job. In snow, YETI has a Velcro cuff to keep it out.

Can you use a touchscreen while wearing winter work gloves?

Yes, with WINTER FOAM. It is the only line here that works with a touchscreen, for example size 9: S-76396. With the other gloves you will need to take one off.

Which glove size do you need?

Go by the size you already wear in work gloves. Then check which line comes in that size:

  • FROST: 6 to 11, the only line with sizes 6 and 7, for example size 6: S093220200
  • WINTER FOAM: 8 to 11
  • S-THERMGRIP ECO: 9 to 11
  • S-THERMGRIP: 9 and 10
  • PARKER and YETI: 8

Do you wear a thin glove underneath, as S-THERMGRIP ECO allows? Then keep that in mind when you pick your size.

Beanie or hat with earflaps: which is warmer for outdoor work?

None of these product pages gives a temperature range, so compare the build. CORK has earflaps that close under your chin, a waterproof outer and a synthetic fur lining, and is meant for very low temperatures. ALASKA adds a 3M Thinsulate lining. If you wear a helmet, OLO is the hat that is described as fitting under one.

Is a hat with a built-in light handy for work in the dark?

Yes, if you need light with both hands free, for example on early shifts. RAY gives up to about 4 hours of light on a charge. RAY FLUO adds a reflective band, and 2 RAYS has a red light at the back so people behind you see you too.

Neck warmer or scarf: which works better at work?

A neck warmer is a closed tube, so there are no loose ends hanging in front of you while you work. HUGO also has an opening at the mouth, so you can breathe and talk with it pulled up.

Are winter work gloves tested against cold?

Only check what the product page of that glove says. FROST and WINTER FOAM list EN 511, the standard for protection against cold. The pages of S-THERMGRIP ECO, S-THERMGRIP, PARKER and YETI do not list EN 511.

Can you wash work gloves and winter hats?

It depends on the line:

  • COOPTER and HUGO: wash at 30 °C.
  • ALASKA, OSLO, CORK and 2 RAYS: hand wash only.
  • RAY: take out the light first, then hand wash.
  • S-THERMGRIP ECO and S-THERMGRIP size 9: do not wash.

For the other gloves and hats no care instructions are given, so check the product page before you wash them.
