Which Cersanit Ares tile do you choose for floor or wall?

Which Cersanit Ares tile do you choose for floor or wall?

Want one calm concrete look on your floor, your walls and even your stairs? Cersanit Ares cement-look tiles give you a fine concrete texture in earthy colours, in sizes from 30×30 to 60×120 cm. Pick a matt Ares tile for floors and walls, keep satin for indoor walls, and finish the job with mosaic, skirting or steptreads in the same colour.

Saniso carries 109 Ares products in nine colours, from white and light grey to mocca and graphite. Cersanit describes the Cersanit Ares ceramic tile collection as earthy, timeless colours with a concrete texture on matt tiles and an easy-clean, non-slip finish. Saniso B.V. in Zwaag sells Cersanit (Ares) as a wholesaler and webshop.

Why choose Ares cement-look tiles

You choose Ares when you like the look of concrete but want the practical side of ceramic tiles. Think of cement-look tiles for a bathroom floor, an Ares tile on a kitchen wall, or large tiles across a living room.

Concrete texture indoors: cemento look without real concrete mess

Cersanit calls this design cemento: a fine concrete texture that gives a subtle effect indoors. You get the industrial feel of a concrete floor, without pouring, sanding or sealing one.

The tiles in the overview below are 8 mm thick; the white decor tile is 9 mm. On the matt tile pages you will find wall and floor use, frost resistance and a slip rating.

One colour line for floor, wall and trims

Most Ares colours come as tiles, mosaic, skirting and steptreads. Your floor, the bottom edge of the wall and the stairs can all match, without hunting for a lookalike from another range.

Grey is the most complete line, from 30×30 to 60×120 plus mosaic, skirting and treads. Light Beige is the exception: it only comes as a satin wall tile in 30×60.

Who buys Cersanit Ares tiles at Saniso?

Ares suits anyone tiling a bathroom, kitchen, hallway or living room who wants a cement look on the floor, the walls or both. For example:

  • someone renovating their own bathroom or kitchen and wanting floor and wall to match
  • someone redoing a staircase who wants treads in the same colour as the floor below
  • a tiler or contractor ordering tiles, skirting and treads for one project in one colour

Formats: 30×30, 30×60, 60×60 and 60×120

Product names use the nominal size. Cersanit gives the exact size, such as 29.8×59.8 cm for a 30×60 tile, so plan your layout with the size on the product page.

Smaller formats for walls and compact rooms

  • 30×30: a small bathroom or toilet floor, or a landing next to 30×30 treads. The beige OP708-001-1 is a good example.
  • 30×60: the all-rounder for bathroom and kitchen walls and hallway floors. It is also the only size in satin.

Large formats for fewer joints on floors

  • 60×60: kitchen and living room floors where you want fewer joints. Warm beige OP708-097-1 gives a warm, sandy floor.
  • 60×120: open living areas or a large feature wall. This size comes in Grey, Mocca, Warm Beige and White, for example the grey OP708-141-1.

Colours and finish: matt or satin

Ares comes in nine colours: White, Light Grey, Grey, Graphite, Beige, Light Beige, Warm Beige, Mocca and Brown. Matt and satin are two different finishes with different uses, so choose the finish before the colour.

Matt — often wall and floor

Matt is the main line and comes in every colour except Light Beige. The matt tile pages list wall and floor use, indoor and outdoor application and frost resistance.

The slip rating differs per product page: some show R10b, others R 10. Check the value for the exact tile you order.

Satin — wall only, not frost-resistant

Satin comes in White and Light Beige, both in 30×60. These tiles are for indoor walls only and are not frost resistant. Their product pages list no slip or wear rating, so do not use them on a floor.

The white satin wall tile OP708-166-1 fits a bathroom wall above a matt floor.

Accessories: mosaic, skirting and steptread

The accessories let you finish a room or staircase in the same colour as your tiles.

  • Mosaic (30×30 sheets): for a niche, a strip on the wall or an accent area. The beige MD587-008 is one of eight mosaics with a fixed price. The grey and graphite mosaic BS versions are priced on request.
  • Skirting (7×30 and 7×60): a neat finish where floor meets wall. The grey OD708-029 goes with the grey floor tiles.
  • Steptreads (30×30, 30×60 and 30×120): for stairs, listed for floor use and frost resistant. The grey OD708-030 suits a staircase in grey. The 30×120 treads that go with the large tiles, such as OD708-137, are priced on request. On a few tread pages the size fields differ from the product name, so go by the size in the name and ask us if in doubt.
  • Decor tile: the white satin inserto OD708-181 (60×60) adds a pattern to an indoor wall.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use Ares tiles on both floor and wall?

Yes, if you choose matt. The matt tile pages list wall and floor use. Satin tiles and the white decor tile are for walls only.

Matt or satin: which finish for a bathroom wall?

Both work on an indoor bathroom wall. Satin gives a smoother look, while matt lets you continue the same tile from floor to wall. Only matt belongs on the floor.

Which size should you choose — 30×60, 60×60 or 60×120?

Start with the room. In a small bathroom, 30×60 is easy to handle and works on wall and floor. For a kitchen or living room floor, 60×60 or 60×120 gives you fewer joints and a calmer surface.

Are Ares cement-look tiles frost-resistant outdoors?

Not all of them. The matt tile and tread pages list frost resistance and indoor and outdoor application. Satin tiles are not frost resistant and are for interior walls only.

Cersanit's own collection text talks about effects indoors. Planning an outdoor floor? Check the product page of the exact tile and ask us before you order.

Do you need matching skirting and steptread in the same colour?

You don't have to, but it gives a finished look. Most colours have skirting, treads and mosaic in the same shade. Light Beige has no matching accessories.

What does rectified (RECT) mean for joint width?

Rectified tiles have edges ground to an exact size after firing. That lets you lay them with narrower joints. For example, the grey OP708-008-1 is rectified, while the grey MT587-001-1 in the same size is not.

What is R10 / slip resistance on these tiles?

An R rating tells you how slip resistant a floor tile is. Matt Ares product pages show either R10b or R 10, depending on the page. Cersanit lists R10b on its own product cards. Satin tiles have no slip rating, which is another reason to keep them off the floor.

What does abrasion class 4 or PEI 4 mean on the product page?

It is a rating for how well the glazed surface resists wear. Cersanit lists "abrasion resistance class 4" and does not use the term PEI. Some Saniso product pages say "Pei 4" instead, for example the brown OP708-095-1.

The English and Dutch page of the same tile can also show different labels. Go by the page of the tile you order, and ask us if your project needs a specific rating.
