Resina-cemento explained: why Fugabella Color gives an even grout colour
We have written about grout before: which colour to choose is in our blog on choosing the right grout colour, the difference between two Kerakoll grouts in our blog on choosing between Fugalite and Fugabella, and how to tackle discoloured grout in our blog on cleaning and renewing discoloured grout. In this blog we go one layer deeper: what is actually in Kerakoll Fugabella Color grout, and why does the colour stay so even? In the Kerakoll film below you see the grout in practice.
What is Resina-cemento?
A traditional grout is a mix of cement, sand and additives. Cement is strong, but also porous: it absorbs moisture and dirt, and the colour can vary from place to place because of differences in drying. With Resina-cemento, resin and cement work together in one grout:
- The cement gives the grout its strength and the familiar mineral look.
- The resin makes the grout denser, so it absorbs less moisture and is less prone to staining.
The result is a grout that handles like a cement grout but behaves more like a resin grout in use. Read more about how adhesive, grout and finish are matched in our blog on the Kerakoll tile system.
Why the colour stays even
Patchy grout often occurs because the grout dries faster in one place than another, or because more or less water goes into each bucket. Because Fugabella Color depends less on those differences, the colour stays the same across the whole floor or wall. At Saniso you choose from 50 colours, from light to dark, for example Fugabella Color in colour 01, Fugabella Color in colour 04, Fugabella Color in colour 06 or Fugabella Color in colour 29.

💡 Always look at a grout colour next to your own tile and in the light of the room where it will go. A colour can look different on a colour chart than on the wall.
Application: the points that make the difference
However good a grout is, the application determines the end result. Pay attention to these points:
- Clean joints: scrape tile adhesive residue out of the joints with a Raimondi joint scraper. The joint should be equally deep everywhere.
- Accurate mixing: mix in a clean 12-litre bucket and follow the ratio on the packaging exactly. Do not mix more than you can use within the working time.
- Fill fully and diagonally: press the grout into the joints diagonally across the tiles with a grout spreader, so they are completely full.
- Wash off on time: remove the excess with a ABS sponge float and, on large floors, a Raimondi floor sponge. Do not wait too long, but do not start too early either.
- Remove haze: if a cement haze remains on the tiles, use Fila Deterdek Pro cement haze remover after curing, following the instructions.
Working safely
Grouting is also work where you protect yourself:
- Hands: wear work gloves with nitrile coating, as grout can irritate your skin.
- Eyes: safety goggles against splashes when mixing and splinters when raking out.
- Knees: Raimondi knee pads with gel for work on the floor.
- Dust: an FFP2 dust mask when pouring powder or grinding out old grout.
Grout yourself or hire a tiler?
With patience you can grout a small wall or a toilet room yourself. How to tile a bathroom is explained in our blog on tiling a bathroom. For large floors, large-format tiles, dark grout colours or a wet room that has to be watertight, experience is invaluable.
👷 Calling in a professional is never unnecessary. An experienced tiler works faster and more evenly, and knows exactly when the grout is ready to wash off. In doubt about the substrate or waterproofing? A professional is always the best choice.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Resina-cemento and an ordinary cement grout?
With Resina-cemento, resin and cement work together. The grout absorbs less moisture, is less prone to staining and keeps a more even colour.
Why is an even grout colour important?
Grout with colour differences looks restless and stands out, especially in raking light. Even grout makes the tiling look crisp.
Can I use Fugabella Color in the shower?
Always consult Kerakoll's technical data sheet for the application. In doubt about a wet room, ask a tiler for advice.
