Carpenter’s Clamps: Choose Opening and Clamping Force | Saniso

Carpenter’s Clamps: Choose Opening and Clamping Force | Saniso

A carpenter’s clamp (bar clamp) holds boards or frames firmly while glue cures or while you assemble parts in carpentry work.

At Saniso the STALCO line under STALCO carpenter’s clamps covers eight sizes: openings from 150 mm to 1500 mm, depths 50 / 80 / 120 mm, and stated clamping forces 170 / 270 / 470 kg. Saniso B.V. in Zwaag sells the STALCO brand as a wholesaler and webshop.

What is a carpenter’s clamp (bar clamp)?

It is a long-bar screw clamp for carpentry and glue-ups: you set the opening to the workpiece width, then tighten. Choice on Saniso is mainly opening, depth and clamping force — not a mix of C-clamps or other clamp families in this guide.

Why use a carpenter’s clamp?

You use a carpenter’s clamp for glue-ups and assembly: it keeps boards, panels or frames closed while adhesive cures, or aligned until fasteners take over. The long bar bridges a wide span; the screw handle sets the pressure. The longest STALCO model in this line reaches 1500 mm opening with 470 kg clamping force.

Who typically uses one?

Carpenters, furniture makers and DIY woodworkers who glue or assemble wooden parts and need a temporary, adjustable hold — especially when a C-clamp or hand pressure is not wide enough.

Opening width: 150 mm to 1500 mm

Match opening to the widest span you need to close.

  • Compact (150 / 250 mm): small shelf edges or narrow panel joints — S012870515 and S012870525.
  • Mid (300 / 500 / 800 mm): cabinet sides, drawer boxes or table aprons — S012870130, S012870150, S012870180.
  • Long (1000 / 1500 mm): full-width tabletops or long frame glue-ups — longest: S012870115, 1500 mm / 120 mm / 470 kg (~€33.88 incl. / ~€28.00 excl.).

Frequently asked questions

How big a carpenter’s clamp do I need?

Measure the widest part of your workpiece, then choose an opening at least that wide. After that, pick depth and the kg figure for how deep and how hard you need to clamp. The 470 kg / 120 mm models share force and depth — only opening changes.

I need 300 mm opening — do I pick the deeper clamp or the lighter one?

Same 300 mm opening; S012870130 is 120 mm deep / 470 kg; S012870830 is 80 mm deep / 270 kg.

What’s the difference between the 150 mm and 250 mm small clamps?

S012870515 has a 150 mm opening; S012870525 has a 250 mm opening. Both are 50 mm deep with 170 kg clamping force.

Carpenter’s clamp or spring clamp — which do I need?

A carpenter’s clamp (long bar, screw handle) spans wide glue-ups and holds pressure until the joint sets. A spring clamp is a different type: short reach, spring jaws, handy for light temporary holds — not a substitute for these eight STALCO long-bar models.

Does this cover all clamps at Saniso, or only bar-style carpenter’s clamps?

Only these eight STALCO bar-style carpenter’s clamps. Other clamp types on the wider vices-and-clamps category (for example C-clamps) are out of scope here.
