How to choose timber

Choose the cross-section and length based on the load and span. For studwork and battens, planed timber gives a neat finish; sawn timber is fine for hidden constructions.

Let timber acclimatise in the room for a few days before you process it, so that it shrinks or swells less after installation. Store it flat and dry to prevent warping.
