Quiet toilet with vortex flushing: how Cersanit Vortex works
You use a toilet every day, so small differences are quickly noticed. How quietly does it flush? Does the bowl stay clean? How much water goes through it? Cersanit developed the Vortex flushing technology to answer those questions. In the short film below you see how the water swirls through the bowl. In this blog we explain what the technology does and why it suits a modern bathroom or toilet room.
What is vortex flushing?
In a classic toilet, the water flows down from the rim. With Vortex, the water enters the bowl from the side and turns in a powerful swirl. That rotating movement reaches the entire surface of the bowl, including the areas an ordinary flush barely touches.
- Powerful: the swirl carries dirt away from the whole inside of the bowl.
- Quiet: the water does not crash down but flows around, which you hear less.
- Rimless: there is no hollow flushing rim where dirt and limescale build up.

Easier to keep clean
Because there is no flushing rim, you can reach the whole bowl with a brush and a cloth. Cersanit's ultra-smooth glaze also means dirt adheres less easily. A wall-mounted toilet brush with glass holder next to the toilet and a weekly clean are usually enough.

💡 Use a mild cleaner and no abrasives. That way the glaze stays smooth and the bowl stays good-looking for longer.
Water use
According to Cersanit, Vortex saves up to 20,000 litres of water per year compared with an older toilet. How much it is for you depends on your current toilet, the number of users and the cistern setting. Still, it is a welcome benefit: a thorough flush with less water.
Which Vortex toilet suits you?
Vortex comes in several models, so you can choose the shape that suits your bathroom:
- A Larga Pro wall-hung toilet with Vortex flushing and slim seat for a soft, rounded look.
- A City Pro oval wall-hung toilet with Vortex flushing or a crisper City Pro square wall-hung toilet with Vortex flushing for a modern toilet room.
- A Zen Pro square wall-hung toilet with Vortex flushing if you like straight lines.
- A Larga Pro oval wall-hung toilet with Vortex flushing and Moonway seat with a slim seat.
- A compact rimless Vortex wall-hung toilet for a small toilet room.
- A Colour Pro close-coupled toilet with Vortex flushing if you do not have or want a concealed cistern.
With a wall-hung toilet you also choose the flush plate, for example a Luna flush plate in gloss chrome or a Luna flush plate in matt black. Finish it off with a chrome toilet roll holder in the same style. To learn more about the brand, read our brand blog on Cersanit.
Installation: leave this to the professional
A wall-hung toilet hangs from a concealed cistern in the wall. Drainage, water supply, the load-bearing capacity of the wall and the finish all come together there. An installer knows how to mount the cistern firmly and level, and how to prevent leaks.
👷 Calling in a professional is never unnecessary. Especially with a new toilet on a concealed cistern, a certified installer makes sure the water supply and drain connections are sound and leak-free. That prevents water damage behind the tiles.
What you can do yourself: renew the sealant joint around a floor-standing toilet. For that you use sanitary silicone sealant and a sealant gun. How to do it is explained in our blog on resealing a bathroom with new silicone. Wear work gloves with nitrile coating, and safety goggles when cutting away old sealant.
Plan the toilet and bathroom together
Renovating the whole bathroom or toilet room? Then this is the moment to choose a new toilet as well. The installer can place the concealed cistern at the right height straight away. In our guide to planning a bathroom renovation you read how to plan a bathroom renovation step by step.

Frequently asked questions
How does Vortex flushing work?
The water enters the bowl from the side and swirls around. That rinses the whole surface clean, without a flushing rim.
Is a Vortex toilet really quiet?
Cersanit describes the flush as remarkably quiet yet powerful. How quiet it sounds in your home also depends on the wall, the cistern and the room.
Can I hang a Vortex toilet myself?
Installing a concealed cistern and wall-hung toilet is best left to a certified installer, who ensures a firm, leak-free installation.
