Choose by tile type and size, and by the surface the tiles go on. A standard adhesive is enough for ceramic tiles on a stable wall, while large tiles, underfloor heating and wooden substrates ask for a flexible adhesive such as an S1 variant.
Cement grout is the usual choice for ceramic and porcelain tiles and comes in grey, white and a wide range of colours. Epoxy grout is chosen where the joint has to resist dirt and moisture, for example in showers and in areas that are cleaned often.
An expansion joint in a tiled floor takes up movement between the tiles and the structure, so the tiles do not crack. Self-adhesive joints come in lengths of 2 m and in widths of 9, 11 and 13 mm.
Clean the surface while the grout is still fresh, and remove the haze afterwards with a grout cleaner. Epoxy grout leaves a resin film that comes off with a dedicated epoxy cleaner rather than with an acid cleaner.
